Here’s corroboration, except instead of screwing up a state, they’ve managed to screw up a whole COUNTRY. Portugal had a “golden visa” program to entice foreigners to move there, as long as they purchased property valued at more than 500,000 Euros ($52,485). The influx of Californians and the money they brought with them has caused rent in Lisbon to be five times more than it used to be. Natives can’t afford to live there. Gee, where’ve we heard THAT before? Not a unique or new situation. When I was in Honduras back in the ‘80s, we were limited on how much cash we could get from the pay officer (in U.S. Dollars OR Lempira) because Army Command was concerned that too large of a cash influx would wreck the local economy.

Re: This reminds me of my days as a service manager in heavy equipment dealerships. Any time a piece of heavy equipment had to be repossessed, we had to: 1. Find out where the equipment was located. 2. Arrange for a tractor/lowboy combination to go to the machine’s location. 3. Assign a field mechanic to meet the lowboy driver at the machine – almost always after dark – so he could do what he had to get the machine started and loaded on the trailer. It was the number three where I generally encountered difficulty. Most of the guys that were loaded into service trucks, had several years under their belts as field mechanics, and most had been involved in a repossession retrieval at least once. There was usually more than one that had had a gun pulled on him by a pissed-off owner or employee who knew the repo was going down and was armed and sleeping in the cab. For perspective, one has to look at the factors that distinguish a repo’d $60,000 hot rod and a repo’d $250,000 excavator. The hot rod guy is pissed because he’s losing his status symbol and chick magnet. On the other hand, the excavator guy is losing the machine that he earns a living with and uses to put food on his table.

Unless you think it’s fair that the federal government forces for-profit and non-profit activities to pay for transgender medical procedures, counseling, and medication regimen when it goes against their religious beliefs.

Even a hint of economic impropriety might result in politicians with a little common sense being elected, and she couldn’t have that.

Three male junior high students are being brought up on sexual harassment charges (typically reserved for rape, incest, or inappropriate touching) for using the wrong pronoun to address a fellow student. Apparently, the action was taken at the behest of a female who started screaming profanity at the group because she wasn’t being addressed as “he.” Maybe she would’ve preferred “it.”

While the author was aware of the program, this article was the first seen highlighting the specifics of where the money will come from. The fund bankrolling Paid Leave Oregon is paid for by a 1%, 60/40 split between ALL employees (even if they’ll never use it), and employers. That means for every $1000 in pay, employees will have $6 taken out, while it’ll cost employers $4. It’s a state-level version of Lane County’s Transit Tax, where everybody has money taken out of their paycheck to make it easier for bums to ride the bus (or whatever LTD does with it), whether the EMPLOYEE rides the bus or not. Think about it. If you’re unmarried, you’re having money taken out of every check, even though you’ll never have a chance to use the annual 12 weeks off, because of birth or adoption of a child. How much longer is it going to be before anybody working in Oregon has money taken out of each check to pay into the “I don’t want to work, so give me free money” fund, AKA the deadbeat bank.
