‘Everyone split’: Fear of ICE presence on Broadway leads to restaurant closures. What’s the big deal? If the restaurants and bars involved haven’t done anything wrong, they have nothing to worry about. All they have to do is follow the law and process the I-9s in accordance with existing regulations. If, however, they’re lax in their compliance efforts, e.g., employing someone who’s sharing the same Social Security Number with four other people, that’s a different story, and one of the reasons this country’s got the problems it has.
