New Riverfront housing in Eugene is only affordable for some. Tell me again how projects like this, pushed by hypocritical Eugene management, are supposed to get people outta their tents or keep people from livin’ in them to start with. To begin with, from this writer’s perspective, lettin’ the bid for construction of those units that the city fathers can’t quit braggin’ about (at least the first one) was built by an outfit outta Portland. What’s wrong with keeping the construction dollars here in Eugene? The monthly rent for a 480-foot studio apartment costs over $1,800, and a furnished studio costs over $2,300. I can understand them pushin’ high-end developments like those surrounding the 5th Street market area that cater to out-of-town visitors. But don’t blow smoke up my ass and try to make me believe that the apartments going in at the Riverfront are gonna help move bums outta their tents, ’cause they’re not.
