Here’s a taste of what the linked article reveals: Democrats bragged that the recently passed IRA included tax credits for an EV purchase. Now that it’s law, the reality is lower priced EVs are excluded, and may phase out in 2023. This is because the Dems included an “assembled in North America” requirement, and starting in 2023, that includes the battery. Whoops – there goes most, if not all lower priced EVs. Before the IRA went into effect, 72 EVs were eligible. Since passage, that number drops to 16, and in 2023, only 3 will qualify. Only 2 of the accepted vehicles on the list sell for below $36,000, and 14 range between $43,000 and $87,400. However, and here’s the kicker, in 2023 ZERO EVs are eligible for tax credits. The Democrats’ marketing of the IRA used the EV tax credit as a carrot, just like the TV commercials that advertise thousands of dollars’ worth of free silver. However, the devil’s in the details.
