Portland is one of few major American cities without police traffic enforcement. THAT’S a recipe for disaster, and unless it’s turned around, the Portland wokesters will be bitchin’ about having to drive through unsafe vehicular traffic. All you have to do is pay attention to headlines. They’ve already got their share of road rage shootouts. Let me tell you where this’ll lead – and I’ve got photographic proof. When I was deployed to Honduras back in the ’80s, as I was being driven to and from base camp, looking for equipment parts, the first thing I was struck by was sharing the road with an excessive amount of vehicles being held together with bailin’ wire and bubble gum. On top of that, the country lacked the visible presence of traffic control and enforcement that we’re used to here in the states. I am confident this pervasive attitude led to the death of a contracted Honduran driver pulling one of our D8s on a lowboy when he lost his brakes in the mountains bordering El Salvator. He went over the edge, and when he got to the bottom, the dozer snapped the woefully inadequate number of tiedown chains, catapulting through the back of the cab, killing the driver. A similar event occurred before I got into the country, in which the driver was seriously injured. The longer Portland goes without traffic enforcement, the greater the chances are of drivers being involved in some accident because they’re sharing the road with others whose attitude is, “why replace the brake light bulbs that quit working – I won’t get a ticket, ’cause there aren’t any cops on the road.” Then again, maybe that’s what it takes to thin the herd of woke progressives they’ve got up there.
