Alaska Airlines plane had door panel blow out ahead of scheduled safety check. As alluded to on these pages before, it appears that Alaska Airlines is about to join Boeing on the receivin’ end of the “we’re thinkin’ about bringin’ a lawsuit against you” club. This is a case of “how bad is bad.” If the warning light came on, the plane should’ve been taken out of service until it was investigated, and the cause of the warning light rectified. It’s an airplane for Christ’s sake! My Dad was a private pilot and used to tell me that maintenance of a plane was critical ’cause, unlike a car that develops a problem, at 10,000 feet, there isn’t a shoulder to pull off on to investigate the trouble.
