OREGON OBSERVATIONS.1 11 FEBRUARY 2026

UO construction is causing parking issues. One business owner says his business struggles due to limited accessibility. “Today, for example, I circled around four different blocks at least four different times to try to find a spot to park. You know, as an owner of the building, you would think I would be given a parking space. Unfortunately, I’m not, and neither are my employees, and they have to do the same thing, let alone the customers, who are trying to support us, you know. There’s nowhere for them to park.” Okay, I’ve gotta ask: Are the same city planners that turned Eugene’s downtown core into a giant vehicle-free pedestrian area in the ’70s STILL workin’ for the city?  This situation mirrors the larger problem of the state forcing privately owned businesses and their livelihoods to take a back seat to the Democrat-run, holier-than-thou government. Don’t believe me? We just went through the same thing not too many years ago, when LTD basically stole land from West 11th Ave businesses to expand its precious ETD line. You know – the green bend-in-the-middle buses that are seldom seen at ANY time with more than four or five riders. It took this city 20 YEARS to reverse the boneheaded decision to turn downtown into a brick-covered hippie zone. Will they EVER come up with more customer parking for the businesses tryin’ to survive in the U of O shadow?
