Here’s a question: If the public high school graduation rate’s dropped to 81.3% since the Chinese virus, and enrollment levels are down, why haven’t our property taxes (PAYIN’ for those schools) decreased by a corresponding amount? Inquiring minds want to know.

Managers say new college grads aren’t ready for work. A new survey reveals that 81% of business leaders believe recent college graduates are woefully unprepared for the professional world. The inability to handle constructive criticism, poor conflict resolution, and poor cell phone etiquette were some issues managers cited. The problem is especially pronounced as the workforce continues its shift out of its COVID pandemic phase. Let me get this straight. These newbies to the business world have (mostly) gone into debt, an average of over $100,000 for a 4-year degree, only to fail the first day on the job for what amounts to a lack of common sense. So I have to ask: What’d they pay $100,000 for?

Lane Professional Firefighters Union members to testify at city council meeting. I’m tellin’ you – this keeps gettin’ better and better. They want to raise $10 million to fill the firefighters’ budget gap, then turn around and use $8 million of it on other pet projects of theirs. Here’s an idea: Instead of chargin’ homeowners $10 a month and commercial businesses $38 a month to raise the money, why don’t the Lane County Democrats cut out a few touchy-feely programs to find the $8 million they’re missin’? Sounds like a win-win to me. If they’d quit feedin’ the bums and givin’ ’em free stuff, maybe they’d all jump on a train that’s headin’ north to Portland. BTW – I’m not the only one that feels like this. When asked if they supported the plan, 78% said NO.
