Here’s corroboration, except instead of screwing up a state, they’ve managed to screw up a whole COUNTRY. Portugal had a “golden visa” program to entice foreigners to move there, as long as they purchased property valued at more than 500,000 Euros ($52,485). The influx of Californians and the money they brought with them has caused rent in Lisbon to be five times more than it used to be. Natives can’t afford to live there. Gee, where’ve we heard THAT before? Not a unique or new situation. When I was in Honduras back in the ‘80s, we were limited on how much cash we could get from the pay officer (in U.S. Dollars OR Lempira) because Army Command was concerned that too large of a cash influx would wreck the local economy. 3
