Social Media Child Protection Act would ban children younger than 16 from platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. Folks, other than proper exercising of good parenting skills, I don’t know the answer, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t it. The only way to keep kids off social media platforms is to keep them away from a device that allows them access. As long as they have a device, they think it’s cool ‘cause their friends are doing it, and they’ll lie to access whatever chat room their friends are in. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: If the reason parents give their kids a cell phone is to make a call in case of an emergency, somebody needs to invent a cell phone that only allows the user to dial a preprogrammed emergency number, or a password-protected parental number – period. The latest available data shows that 8.9% of 10-13-year-olds were victims of cyberbullying; as a result, 7.6% experienced suicidal thoughts. Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it.
