For the uninitiated, allow me to illustrate: To start with, the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution of the United States (Article VI, Clause 2) establishes that the Constitution, federal laws made pursuant to it, and treaties made under its authority, constitute the “supreme Law of the Land,” and thus take priority over any conflicting state laws. On top of that, 8 U.S. Code § 1227 – Deportable Aliens describes who they can deport, and officials who impede the removal of aliens subject to 8 U.S. Code § 1227 (Deportable aliens) can be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than four years (or 10 years if the alien is a member of certain classes).
