City of Eugene moves forward with ‘Railroad Quiet Zone’ project. The businesses are bitchin’ about the trains making too much noise as they traverse the downtown area with what seems to be dozens of railroad crossings, but the REAL reason for the noise is the city’s attitude and policy towards bums. If Eugene weren’t so bum-friendly, they wouldn’t be walking in the danger zone on a railroad right of way to get to their canvas condo, which is also located on railroad property. By sounding the train’s horn in a bum-infested corridor, the rail carrier only tries to protect itself from litigation if someone doesn’t have enough sense to get off the tracks. The solution to the problem? Easy. Get rid of the bums, and the noise will go away.
