OREGON OBSERVATIONS 30 OCTOBER 2023

First humanoid robot factory in the U.S. can crank out 10,000 robots a year. What you need to know about this revolutionary new factory. The FIRST thing you need to know is that it’s located in Salem, Oregon. The SECOND thing you need to know is that they won’t exactly fly off the shelf at an initial estimated price of $250,000 apiece. The reason should be obvious. Assuming the average warehouse worker makes $18 an hour, their annual wages and benefits package will cost a company $50,000 annually if they aren’t injured in an on-the-job accident. Working at the same rate as a human, It’d take 5 years to break even. Even if Digit produced twice as much as its human counterpart, balancing the investment would take 2 ½ years. In the plus column, the robot wouldn’t suffer any attendance issues and would no doubt have a better efficiency rating (no breaks, lunch hours, etc.). We’ll have to keep our eye on this one.
