Should members of Congress be banned from trading stocks? THAT’S one of the stupidest questions I’ve ever heard. Guess what? 97% of respondents agreed with me and answered YES to the question. For Christ’s sake! Members of Congress have inside knowledge and information days, if not weeks, before regulatory guidance or rules are released for wide dissemination. There are insider trading laws prohibiting Wall Street types from trading based on backroom intelligence. Why should the bodies of politicians who make up those rules be treated any differently?

Oregon colleges say no to Trump administration higher ed compact. Is ANYBODY surprised? Indeed, no Oregonian who’s old enough to remember the pre-Democrat days of state governance should be. Roots of our current indoctrination centers can be traced back to the Vietnam War days – more accurately, the opposition to it. Streets filled with tie-died flower-power hippies protesting the war was where the state’s current educational environment was born. As I’ve explained more than once on these pages, the hippies of yesteryear went on to teach at, if not run, the educational institutions that, of course, are opposed to any infusion of common sense into their organization.
